Research Note Not certain that the Robert Hitt who married Elizabeth and Mary is the same Robert who is the son of Charles & Elizabeth. Getting his marriage certificate would confirm. It seems quite likely, as he is the the only Robert baptized in the Broadclyst parish register. 
BaptismRobert Hitt was baptized on 19 Apr 1818 in Broadclyst, Devon. S/o Charles & Elizabeth, labourer.1 
MarriageHe married Elizabeth (-?-).2
 
1851 CensusRobert Hitt and Elizabeth (-?-) appeared on the 1851 Census of Exeter St Sidwell, Devon, at 155 Sidwell Street. Robert was 32, a Sawyer, and born in Broadclist, Devon. Elizabeth was 47 and born in Plymouth. A lodger lived with them.2 
MarriageRobert Hitt married Mary Edgecombe on 17 Apr 1854 in St Luke Chelsea, Middlesex.
Details from the register: Robert Hitt, bachelor, sawyer, father Charles Hitt, labourer;
Mary Edgecombe, marital status not recorded, father Henry Edgecombe, bootcloser.
They were both of full age and both resided at 9 Pond Place. The witnesses were Charles Williams and Rosetta Bitcher.3 
1861 CensusRobert and Mary appeared on the 1861 Census of Kensington, Middlesex, at 18 William Street. Robert was 28, a Sawyer, and born in Exeter. Mary was 33 and born in Exeter. Their children Elizabeth and Susannah were with them.4 
Note.They had their son Charles baptised in 1870, a few weeks before their son Robert.5 
1871 CensusRobert and Mary appeared on the 1871 Census of Kensington, Middlesex, at 51 William Street. Robert was 49, a Wood Sawyer, and was born in Broad Clist Devon. Mary was 44, an Ironer, and was born in Exeter. Their children Elizabeth, Susan, Charles and Robert were living with them.6 
DeathRobert died in 1891.7
