AnecdoteApparently, Elizabeth Graham Reid wanted her first grandson to be called Alexander but his parents wanted David Gordon Cumming. Reportedly at the christening, when the minister asked the childs name, the mother said David Gordon and grandmother Elizabeth added Alexander so he was christened David Gordon Alexander Cumming and as Elizabeth was the head of house at the 1901 census, that would explain Alexander, age 1, on the census.1 
(Other) 1901 CensusHe appeared on the 1901 Census of Poulton Cum Seacombe Civil Parish, Cheshire, in the household of Elizabeth Graham Cumming. He was recorded as grandson Alexander, age 1, born in Birkenhead, Cheshire (his parents were also there).2
