Research Note The spellings "Sanford" and "Sandford" were used interchangeably for this family. I have chosen to use "Sandford" because that is how it was more commonly spelled in later years.

1851/2 CensusHe appeared on the 1852 Census of Madoc, Hastings County, Ontario, enumerated 12 Jan 1852. Francis was a 5 year old child with his parents yeoman Ebenzer & Ann Sandford and siblings Peter and Ebenezer. They lived in a log house and were enumerated on the same page as the Hemstreets, one of whom eventually married a sister of Francis' future wife Mary Victoria Inkster.3

1871 CensusFrancis and Victoria Sanford appeared on the 1871 Census of Fenelon Township, Victoria County, Ontario. Francis was 23, born in Ontario, Presbyterian, of English origin, and was a waggon maker. Victoria was 22 and born in Ontario. They had a 3 month old daughter, Elizabeth.5 
1881 CensusFrancis and Mary V Sandford appeared on the 1881 Census of Fenelon Falls, Victoria County, Ontario. Francis was 33, born in Ontario, Presbyterian, of Irish origin, and was a carriage maker. Mary was 32, born in Ontario, and of Scotch origin. With them was [Mary's brother] James Inkster (27) as well as their four children, namely Elizabeth (10), Maud F (7, attended school), Francis H (4), and William (6 months).6 
1891 CensusFrancis and Victoria M Sandford appeared on the 1891 Census of Fenelon Falls Village, Victoria County, Ontario. The family lived in a wooden 1 1/2 story house with 12 rooms [this was a large home]. Francis was 43, born in Ontario, father born in England, mother in Ireland, Methodist, and was a carriage maker employing three people. Victoria was 42, born in Ontario, father in Scotland, mother in Ireland, and she was Presbyterian. Their children were Elizabeth (20), Frances M (18), Francis H (14), Mable C (13), William I (10), and Earnest R (7).7 
1901 CensusFrancis and Maud [sic] Sandford appeared on the 1901 Census of Fenelon Falls Village, Victoria County, Ontario. Francis was 62 years old, born June 2 1838 in rural Ontario, of Irish origin, Presbyterian, and was an employer [occupation unreadable]. Mary was 57 and born Oct 11 1843 in rural Ontario. Thier children at home were Maud F (30), Mabel C (26), and Reynold (18).8

1910 CensusFrancis and Orpha B Sanford appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Polk County, Florida, enumerated 20 May 1910. Francis was 62, born in Canada, immigrated in 1905, alien, and was a fruit farmer working on his own account. Orpha was 48 and born in Canada. It was the second marriage for both and they had been married five years. They owned their farm free.12 
1920 CensusFrank and Ortha [sic] Sandford appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida. They had a citrus farm and owned their home free. Frank was 72, immigrated in 1905, had alien status, and was born in Canada, parents born in Canada, and operated a citrus farm. Orpha was 59, alien, born in Canada, parents born in Canada.13 
(Mentioned) Passenger ListFrancis Sandford was mentioned on a 1923 passenger manifest for Francis Herbert Sandford on 24 Oct 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, as his father Francis in Winter Haven, Florida.11 
DeathFrancis died on 28 Sep 1926 in Winter Haven, Polk County, Florida.
The index mentioned that he was 79 years 1 month and 8 days old, born in 1847, married to Orpha Sandford, and his parents were Ebinzer Sandford and Ann Conlin.2
