Charles V Hoffman was born in 1849 in Germany and immigrated to the United States, settling in Cleveland. The immigration year was 1855 or 1857 as reported in the census so his parents Jacob and Lena and any siblings probably came too. Charles was a shipping clerk. He and his wife Katherine married in Cleveland and had four sons. Charles lived to almost 80 years of age and was buried in Lakeview Cemetery. He was Charles or Charles V in all the records except for his son Leon's death certificate where his name was recorded as Valentine Hoffman and his son Alfred Thomas' birth registration where his name was Val C Hoffman.
