1891 CensusDavid and Christina appeared on the 1891 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. The Fair family lived in a 2 story wood house with 6 rooms. David was 29, born in Ontario, parents born in Ireland, religion Presbyterian, and was a Farmer. Christina was 26, born in Ontario, parents born in Ontario, and religion Presbyterian. They could both read and write. They had one son, David (7), as well as David's brother Robert with them.5 
NoteDavid Fair took part in the Yukon Gold Rush. His wife and children remained in Ontario in 1898.3 
Residence-Moved In 1901, David Fair moved to Victoria, British Columbia.3 
1911 CensusDavid and Christiana Fair appeared on the 1911 Census of Victoria, British Columbia, at 914 View Street. David was 46, born in October 1865 in Ontario, of English origin, Presbyterian, and was a house carpenter and employer working 40 weeks the previous year at 48 hours a week for $2000 [a high wage]. Christiana was 46, born in March 1865 in Ontario, and of Scotch origin. Their children were David (26, carpenter), Dela (17), and Jack (14.)6 
1921 CensusDavid and Christina Fair appeared on the 1921 Census of Victoria, British Columbia, at 1615 Camosun Street. They lived in a 6 room wood house. David was 57, born in Ontario, and was a building contractor working on his own account. Christina was 55, born in Ontario. With them was their daughter Bella [sic] (24, bookkeeper at telephone office). The family was Presbyterian.7

FAIR - At the family residence, on Monday, February 10, David Fair, age seventy-three years, of 1619 Camosun Street. The late Mr Fair was born in Paisley, Ont., and had been a resident of this city for the last thirty four years and for many years was a well-known contractor. He is mourned by his widow; also one daughter, Mrs J Egan, of 1615 Camosun Street, and one son, David, of 1623 Amphion Street; also two brothers, in Peace River and Saskatchewan. A son, John, was killed in the Great War. He was a member of First United Church and of the Bruce, Huron and Grey Association of this city.

The funeral will take place on Thursday afternoon from mcCall Bros.' Funeral Home at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. E.W. Horton, assistant pastor of First United Church will conduct the service, after which interment will be in Colwood Burial Park.8

DAVID FAIR

The funeral of David Fair, well-known Victoria contractor, who passed away yesterday at his home, 1619 Camosun Street, will be held on Thursday afternoon at McCall Bros.' Funeral Home at 2.30 o'clock. Rev. E.W. Horton, assistant pastor of First United Church, will conduct the service, after which interment will be in Colwood Burial Park.9

DAVID FAIR
The funeral of David Fair, well-known contractor of this city, was held yesterday afternoon and attended by a large number of friends, among whom were many who had known the deceased in Bruce County, Ontario. The casket was banked with beautiful floral tributes. Rev E W Horton, assistant pastor of First United Church, conducted the service, during which the hymn "Abide With Me" wa sun. "The Old Rugged Cross" was sung as a solo by Mrs W H Wilson. Interment ws in Colwood Burial Park. The following acted as pallbearers: N B Pollock, J Murkar, O Smith, A Galbraith, T Lumsden and H Webster.10
 
Obituary As well as the standard death notice, The Times also wrote a longer story about David Fair which I read many years ago on microfilm. Information from my notes: died Feb 10 at noon at home 1619 Camosun St; born Paisley Ontario; stockbreeder in Bruce County; in the Yukon Gold Rush in 1898; to Victoria in 1901; member 30 yrs 1st United Church; member Bruce, Huron & Grey Association; predeceased by son John in Great War; survived by widow at home, son David 1623 Amphion Street, daughter Mrs J Egan 1615 Camosun St, 2 brothers in Peace River & Saskatchewan; age 73; funeral Thursday with burial at Colwood Burial Park.3
