John was 46, born 2 May 1855 in rural Ontario, English, Presbyterian, and was a blacksmith employed for 12 months, earning $400. Katherine was 31, born 14 Mar 1870 in rural Ontario, English and Presbyterian. With them was one daughter, Vera, as well as lodger Rose McKellar (74, born Scotland), likely Catherine's mother.7 
1911 CensusJohn and Katherine appeared on the 1911 Census of Toronto, York County, Ontario, at 46 Laughton. John was age 62, born May 1849 in Ontario, Canadian origin, and Presbyterian. He was a blacksmith employed in a foundry for 52 weeks at 55 hours/week for $520. He held $2000 of life insurance costing $61. Katherine was 37, born in February 1874 in Ontario, Canadian, and Presbyterian. They had one daughter, Vera (14.)2
