Arthur was 58, first married at 26, born in Illinois, father born in Scotland, mother in Illinois, and was a carpenter not presently employed. Amanda was 50, first married at 25, born in Arkansas, parents in Arkansas.6 
1940 CensusArthur and Amanda appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of New Lenox Township, Will County, Illinois. In 1935 they lived in the same house and the rent was $20 a month. Arthur was 64, birthplace Illinois, unemployed and seeking work, did not work in 1939 and had income from other sources. Amanda was 60 and born in Arkansas. They each had an 8th grade education.7
