Isabella was born in Upper Canada, Church of Scotland, and age 28. They lived in a 2 story frame house next to Allen's parents. Their children were Archd (6), Neil (4), Margret (2) and William (born in 1860.)3 
1871 CensusAllan and Issabella McLean appeared on the 1871 Census of Elderslie Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Allan was 45, a farmer, and was unable to write. Isabella was 39. The whole family was born in Ontario, of Scotch origin, and their religion was Church of Scotland. The children were Margret (12), Hector (10), William A (9), Christina (6), Hugh A (4), and Donald (2). The oldest three were going to school.4 
1881 CensusAllan and Esibella [sic] appeared on the 1881 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. Allan was 56, a farmer, and married. Esibella was 49 years old. They were both born in Ontario, Canada Presbyterian, of Scotch origin, and married. Their children at home were William (18), Christina (16), Hugh (14), Flora (9), Neil (22), and Margaret (20.)5 
1891 CensusAllen and Isabella appeared on the 1891 Census of Saugeen Township, Bruce County, Ontario. The McLean family lived in a 2 story wood house with 5 rooms. Allen was 66, born in Ontario, parents born in Scotland, religion Presbyterian, and was a Farmer. Isabella was 59, born in Ontario, parents born in Scotland, and religion Presbyterian. Allen could read but not write and the others could all read and write.6 
1901 CensusAllan and Bella McLean appeared on the 1901 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario, at Lot 13 Con 12. Allan was 77, born 15 Aug 1823 in Ontario, Presbyterian, and was a farmer living on own means. Bella was 69, born 1 Feb 1832 in Ontario. They both had Gaelic as their mother tongue and could read, write, and speak English. They lived in a 4 room wood house on 100 acres with one building. With them were their children William (38) and Flora (27.)2 
1911 CensusAllan and Eliza [sic] appeared on the 1911 Census of Paisley, Bruce County, Ontario, at Church Street. Allan was 84, born June 1826 in Ontario. Isabella was recorded as 'Eliza', age 79, born Aug 1831 in Ontario. Both were of Scotch origin and Presbyterian.7
