BaptismHe was baptized on 10 Apr 1831 in St Mary Lambeth, Surrey. The register noted that he was the son of George, a labourer, and Caroline Smart of Tyers Street.3

MarriageHe married Eliza Price on 2 Feb 1851 in Saint James Paddington, London.

1851 CensusGeorge and Eliza Smart appeared on the 1851 Census of St George Hanover Square, Westminster, Middlesex, at 4 Buckingham Place. George was 21, a painter, birthplace St Anns Westminster. Eliza was 23, a dress maker, birthplace Westminster St Margarets. There were four households living at this address.5 
1861 CensusGeorge and Eliza appeared on the 1861 Census of Camberwell, Surrey, at 3 Marlborough Terrace, Old Kent Road. George was 30, a Mercantile Clerk, and was born in Westminster. Eliza was 32, a Dressmaker, also born in Westminster. They had one daughter, Eliza (8, scholar.)6 
1871 CensusGeorge and Eliza appeared on the 1871 Census of Marylebone, Middlesex, at 2 Little Welbeck Street. George was 39, a Tailors Clerk, and was born in St James, Middlesex. Eliza was 39, formerly a dressmaker, birthplace St James' Middlesex. Their children were Eliza (17, dressmaker), Annie (8, scholar), and Mary A (6, scholar). They were one of three families at this address.7 
1881 CensusGeorge and Eliza appeared on the 1881 Census of Marylebone, Middlesex, at 2 Little Welbeck Street. George was 49, a Tailors Clerk, birthplace St James Middlesex. Eliza was 49, birthplace St George's Middlesex. They had three daughters, all Dressmakers: Eliza (27, born St James), Annie (19, St Georges), and Mary A (16, St Georges.)8 
1891 CensusGeorge and Eliza appeared on the 1891 Census of Marylebone, London, at 2 Little Welbeck Street. They occupied 3 rooms at this address. George was 60, a Tailors Clerk, employed, and was born in St James, London. Eliza was 59, born in St Georges, London. With them were their daughters Annie (27, dressmaker assistant) and Mary Ann (22, milliners assistant.)9 
Research Note There is a death record for an Eliza Smart, age 65, in Marylebone RD in March quarter of 1897.10
