MarriageSarah Cordell married John William Henry Gillett on 15 Nov 1856 in St Mary, Harlow, Essex.

They were married by banns and the witnesses were [her sister and future brother-in-law] Eliza Cordell and Wm Smart.1 
1861 CensusJohn W H & Sarah Gillett appeared on the 1861 Census of Islington, Middlesex, at 7 Storey Street. John was 23, a messenger W D Post Office, and was born in Balls Pond, Middlesex. Sarah was 23 and born in Harlow, Essex. Their sons were William J (3) and John H (1). Also with them was John's sister-in-law [Sarah's sister] Emma Cordell (19, formerly cook, born Harlow.)5 
Note.On the 14th of May 1863, their children William James, John Henry, and Sarah Elizabeth were buried in St Pancras Cemetery. Baby Louisa was buried there 24 August 1869.6,7 
1871 CensusJohn William H and Sarah Gillett appeared on the 1871 Census of Marylebone, Middlesex, at 26 Ordnance Road. John was 33, a sorter for the Western District Post Office, and was born in Balls Pond Islington Middlesex. Sarah was 33 and born in Harlow. They had two children: Eleanor Emily (6) and Alice Margarete (4). Also with them was [Sarah's] niece Alice Cordell (11, servant, birthplace Harlow.)8 
1881 CensusJohn W H and Sarah Gillett appeared on the 1881 Census of St Pancras, London, Middlesex, at 43 Allcroft Road. John was 42, occupation GPO Registation Dept, and born in Islington. Sarah was 42, birthplace Harlow. Their children were Margareta (14, black borderer, St Pancras) and Arthur C [sic] (7, scholar, St Marylebone.)9 
(Widowed) DeathHer husband John died on 18 Aug 1890 at Peckham House.10,11 
(Administrator) ProbateSarah Gillett was the administrator of John William Henry Gillett's estate on 4 Oct 1890 in Principal Registry, London. Her residence was 43 Allcroft-road and she was the Universal Legatee.11 
Note.Sarah was enumerated twice in the 1891 census. She was probably visiting her daughter Alice to help with a new baby and was recorded both there and at home. 
1891 CensusSarah C Gillett appeared on the 1891 Census of Islington, London, at 2 Grovesdale Road. She was a widow, age 52, birthplace Harlow. She lived in 3 rooms with her son Albert (18, barman.)12 
1891 CensusSarah Gillett appeared on the 1891 Census of Alverstoke, Hampshire, at No 50 Whitworth Road. She was with her daughter Alice and husband George McKenzie and their son Kenneth, who was less than one month old. Sarah was a widow, age 50, living on her own means, and was born in Harlow Essex.13 
1901 CensusSarah Gillett appeared on the 1901 Census of Harlow, Essex, at Potter Street. She lived alone, although three other women also lived at that address. Sarah was a widow, age 59, living on her own means, and was born in Harlow.14 
DeathSarah died on 6 Jan 1908 in 69 Wanstead Park Road, Ilford, Essex.15

GILLETT Sarah of Potter-street Harlow Essex widow died 6 January 1908 at 69 Wanstead Park-road Ilford Essex. Probate London 3 March to Albert Cordell Gillett retired insurance superintendent. Effects £1168 8s 4d. Resworn £1403 3s 7d.15
