A HORRIBLE DEATH

An inquest was held yesterday by the City Coroner at the Sutherland Hotel, Harris-street, Pyrmont, concerning the death of Mr Palmer, manager of the Sydney Ice Company, who met with an accident on Sunday evening, upon the firm's premises in Harris-street. The deceased was a married man, and about 52 years of age. The evidence showed that while Mr Palmer was in the act of showing some friends over the establishment, he endeavoured to disentangle a lady's dress from some machinery. In doing so he was drawn upon part of a machine, and he suffered such severe injuries that he died soon afterwards. The jury returned a verdict that he died from the effects of injuries accidentally received, and added that in their opinion lights should be placed on the walls of the floor of the building upon which the occurrence happened.12
