Newspaper | Published 7 Sep 1921 in the Red Deer News. One of the prettiest church weddings of the season was performed by Rev Laverie at Grace Presbyterian church, Calgary, on Wednesday last, August 31st, at 3 o'clock, when Clifford John Malcolm of Red Deer, was united in the holy bonds of matrimony to Edna Verna Cardwell, of Ponoka. Approximately fifty people were present at the ceremony, among them being intimate friends of the bride and groom. The altar of the church was tastefully decorated with beautiful flowers. As the bride, charmingly attired in a brown travelling suit, with hat to match, with a bouquet of flowers at her waist, marched down the aisle to the altar on the arm of Mr Graham, her brother-in-law, Mr Gordon Ingle, the organist of Grace church, played the moving strains of the wedding march. As the register was being signed, Miss Brumpton rendered a beautiful solo to the accompaniment of the organ. Immediately after the ceremony the wedding dinner was served in the Palliser hotel, at which relatives and close friends of the young couple were present. After the dinner, the happy couple motored to Banff, where they will spend a prolonged honeymoon, after which they will take up their permanent residence in Calgary. The relatives of the bride and groom present at the wedding were Mrs Graham and Mr Graham (sister and brother-in-law of the bride), Ponoka; Mr and Mrs John Malcolm, Mr and Mrs R A Malcolm, Mr Howard Malcolm, and the Misses Malcolm, of Red Deer. The bride has been a member of the Merchants Bank staff for nearly three years, and took an active part in musical and dramatic events. The groom has been one of the best known athletes in the province, always prominent in baseball and hockey, and always a good sport. He has lived most of his life in Red Deer and gave efficient service overseas. Since his return he has made a study of insurance, first with the J Malcolm Co and since last spring as inspector for the Aetna Insurance Co. Calgary. The News joins with a host of other friends in wishing the young couple many years of happy wedded life.9 |

Newspaper | Published 27 May 1925 in the Red Deer News. Gotta love small town newspapers! Jack Malcolm, aged 2 1/2, son of Cliff Malcolm, a former citizen of Red Deer, is very fond of pets. He has latterly decided that chickens are most attractive creatures and has enjoyed playing with them outside. A wet day having prevented his going out to play, he was found extending a general invitation, backed by such sentiments as he could devise, to the whole assemblage of the fowl yard to come in out of the wet and play with him in the parlour, and only the interference of those troublesome grownups stopped the acceptance of the invitation by several dozen feathered guests, who evidently thought it an excellent idea on little Jack's part.13 |
