Frederick was born c1816 in Alsace Lorraine, which at various times was part of either France or Germany. Our first sighting of him is in New York state in 1850 with his wife Maria and son Frederick. Maria must have died within the next few years, for Frederick married Elizabeth Colse(?) before 1861. He moved his family to Waterloo County in Upper Canada (now Ontario) where there was a large German populaton in the late 1850s, and he continued his trade as a tailor. The family was Lutheran. Frederick had six known children and died in Ontario at the age of 69.
