1881 CensusJames and Mary McQuary [sic] appeared on the 1881 Census of Bruce, Bruce North, Ontario. James was 36, born in Scotland, Presbyterian, and a labourer. Mary was 25 and born in Ontario. The children were Alexander (5), John (3) and Angus (2.)4 
1891 CensusJames and Mary appeared on the 1891 Census of Bruce Township, Bruce County, Ontario. The McQuarrie family lived in a 2 story wood house with 3 [sic] rooms. James was 46, born in Scotland, parents born in Scotland, religion Presbyterian, and worked as a Labourer. Mary was 36, born in Ontario, father born in Ontario, mother in Scotland, and her religion was Presbyterian. Their children were Alex (16), John (14), Angus (11), Flora (9), Catharine Ann (6), Lachlan Hector (3), and Donald Fraser (1.)5 
1901 CensusJames and Mary appeared on the 1901 Census of Port Elgin, Bruce County, Ontario, at Lots 6 & 7 B 148. They leased a 7 room wooden house with 2 lots, 1 outbuilding. James was 59, born 1 Jan 1842 in Scotland, immigrated in 1852, Scotch origin, Presbyterian, a farm laborer, employed 12 months with wages of $300, literate, and his mother tongue was Gaelic. Mary was 45 and born 31 October 1855 in Ontario. Their children at home were John (23), Flora (18), Catherine A (16), Hector (13), Donald F (11), Robert J (9). Also with them was Mary's mother Flora McLean.6 
1921 CensusMary and James McQuarrie appeared on the 1921 Census of Port Elgin, Bruce County, Ontario, at Mill Street. They owned their 8 room wood house. The family was Presbyterian and spoke Gaelic as well as English. Mary was head of the household, age 68, and was born in Ontario. James was 78, born in Scotland, and immigrated in 1844. Lodging with them was Mary's mother Flora McLean (88) as well as 3 roomers.7 
DeathJames died on 23 Apr 1922 in 451 Wellesley St, Toronto, York County, Ontario.
