Research Note I have not yet found anything further on Mary Anne or her husband or son Herbert.

Research Note Have not yet found Frederick in the 1881 census. There are census records for a Frederick born in Hutton, wife Eliza, in 1891, 1901, 1911. Need to view his marriage record to be sure it is the correct fellow.

Research Note Her father was Augustus D Gardner born in 1821 in Steuben County, New York. He married first Julia Baxter with whom he had 3 children: Alice, Susan and Evander Donley. After the death of Julia, Augustus married Mary Russell and moved to Onarga, Illinois where he built a building that he used as a home and a store. Augustus and Mary had 2 children: George and Mabel. George worked for the Pinkerton Detective Agency. Augustus is listed in the draft of the Civil War. He died in March 1864. He and Mary were buried in the Onarga cemetery and there is a probate record for Augustus in Onarga.3 
1870 CensusMaybll [sic] Gardner appeared on the 1870 Federal Census of Onarga, Iroquois County, Illinois, enumerated 22 Jul 1870. She was 6 years old, born in Illinois, and attended school. The head of the household was Amelia Gardner (42, birthplace NY, $800 real estate, $150 personal estate). Also there was George (9, IL, attended school.)4 
1880 CensusThe Gardner family appeared on the 1880 Federal Census of Onarga, enumerated 7 Jun 1880. Mary was 54, widowed, born in NY, parents born in Mass and Maine. George W was 19, worked on the farm, birthplace Illinois. Mabel was 16, a student, birthplace Illinois.5

With them were their daughters Hazel M (7), Helen (2), and Mabel's widowed mother Mary Gardner. Mable was 36, born in Illinois in September 1863, and was the mother of two children. They had been married 10 years and owned their home with a mortgage.7 
1910 CensusJohn and Mable McLean appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Harvey, Cook County, Illinois, at 14840 Centre Avenue, enumerated 20 Apr 1910. John was 55, born in Canada, parents born in Scotland, and he worked on his own account as a tea & coffee merchant. He immigrated in 1867 and was naturalized. Mable was 45, born in Illinois, parents born in New York, and she was employed as a dress maker. They had been married 20 years (first marriage for both) and owned their home free. Mabel was the mother of two children, both still living. Their daughters were Hazel (17) and Helen (11.)2

1920 CensusMabel McLean and her daughter Hazel appeared on the 1920 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at 6104 Dorchester, enumerated 10 Jan 1920. Mabel was a widow, age 56, born in Illinois, parents born in New York, and she worked as a saleslady for a dry goods company. Hazel was 24, born in Illinois, father born in Canada, mother in Illinois, and she worked as a stenographer at a packing company. They had one roomer (Arthur Squire, 26, railroad clerk.)9 
1930 CensusMabel G McLane [sic] appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, at 638 West 69th Street which was an apartment house. Mabel was 66, a widow, born in Illinois, parents born in New York, no occupation. With her was her single brother, George W Gardner, aged 69. Their rent was $65 and they did not have a radio.1 
DeathMabel died on 31 Aug 1933 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.

Jane was 54, born October 1845 in Illinois, father born in New York, mother in Pennsylvania, and she was the mother of 11 children, 7 of whom were still living. Archibald and Jane had been married 32 years, could both read & write, and rented their home. Their children at home were Kittie M (20, restaurant clerk), Jesse L (17), and Flora J (10), both attending school.1

He was 48, single, born in Missouri, father born in Canada, mother in Illinois, and was a general farmer. Celinda was 74, widowed, born in Illinois, father in New York, and mother in Pennsylvania. There was no one else in the household.10

They had been married 20 years, first marriage for both, and Lula was the mother of 8 children, all living. The children were Elsworth G (17), Muriel W [sic] (son, 14), Clarence E (12), Ivor L (10), Florance I (7), Myrtle M (5), Orin? L (3), and Ethel M (2 months). They also had two boarders.4

She was 45, married, born in Illinois, father Canada, mother Illinois. With her were two roomers [her children] Merle W (25, factory laborer) and Ethel M (9).

In the next household, Isaac W was with their children Lloyd I (married, 19, laborer), Flossie M (17, servant), Myrtle I (15), Oren L (12). Isaac was 51, married, owned a home with a mortgage, born in Illinois, and was a Laborer. Also there was his daughter-in-law Isabelle and newborn grandson James.5 
Research Note Googling online finds notes from close relatives that Lulu and Isaac divorced and Lulu then married Charles Millett.

Charles was 52, first married at age 42, born in Iowa, parents born in the United States, occupation laborer doing odd jobs. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War. Lula was 55, first married at 17, born in Illinois, father born in Scotland, mother in Illinois. They had 5 lodgers.6 
1940 CensusCharles and Lola appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Windom, Cottonwood County, Minnesota, at 26 E 9th Street. They rented their home for $7.00 and had lived in the same place in 1935. Charles was 63, had a 6th grade education, birthplace Iowa, occupation Janitor at City Hall. Lola was 65, 5th grade education, birthplace Illinois.7

Research Note I believe that George is a sibling of Lulu's. Her maiden name was McLean and her parents' birthplaces were the same as George's. In the 1880 census, none of Archibald and Celinda's children were recorded. Further evidence was found in the obituary for Henry J McLean citing a brother George of Iowa.

He was 61, a widower [sic], had an 8th grade education, was born in Illinois, lived in Dent County in 1935, and was a farmer working on his own account. He owned his house (on a farm) which was valued at $500.8

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, July 26, at the Cromwell Congregational church at 2 pm for Mrs Sarah McLean, 78. She died Monday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs C Pettinger near Creston, following a heart attack. Burial will be in Cromwell cemetery.
Survivors include: husband Geo McLean, Salem, Mo; Mrs C Pettinger, Creston; Mable McLean, Creston; George McLean Jr Corning; Mrs Earnest Spring, Corning; four grandchildren. Complete obituary next week.9

Emett was 33, born in Iowa, father in Virginia, mother Iowa, and was a Farmer. Jessie was 37, born in Illinois, father in Canada, mother in Illinois. Their children were Lisle U (6, Iowa), Floyd K (3, Iowa), and LaRoy E (4 months, Minnesota.)4 
1930 CensusE P DeHart appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa. They rented their home for $28 and had a radio. E P was 47, first married at 24, born in Iowa, father in W Virginia, mother Iowa, and was a laborer in a packing plant. Jessie was 47, first married at 24, born Illinois, father Indiana, mother Iowa. Their children were Leslie E (17), Floyd K (13), LeRoy E (10), Bernice A (7), and Alice J (1 year 2 months). LeRoy and Bernice were born in Minnesota, the others in Iowa.5 
Research Note Jessie was enumerated twice in the 1940 census. Emmett had remarried and was living in California. 
1940 CensusJessie De Hart appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Waterloo, Black Hawk County, Iowa, at Vaughan Street. The head of the household was Leslie E De Hart and Jessie was his mother. Also there were Leslie's wife and daughter, his sister Bernice and brother LeRoy. Jessie was 57, divorced, did not attend school, had 3 years of high school education, born in Illinois, lived in Waterloo in 1935, no income
Note: the enumerator began the household on page 2A and continued it on 61A.6 
1940 CensusJessie L DeHart appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of East Waterloo Township, Black Hawk County, Iowa. She was a lodger, age 57, divorced, had 3 years of high school education, attended school [sic], birthplace Illinois, lived in Waterloo in 1935, occupation Practical nursing in the home, worked 4 weeks in 1939 for $10. There is a marginal notation "Relief". No other family members were with her.7 
DeathJessie died in 1949.8

Their children were Cathrine M (5), John R (4 3/12), Maurine V (2 9/12), and Helen A (1 6/12). [Enumerated next to them was Nat's sister Lottie and her husband]2

John was 44, first married at 27, born in North Dakota, parents born in English Canada, was a farmer working on his own account, and was not a veteran. Martha was 41, married at 24, and born in Illinois. Their children were Katherine (15), John (14), Marrium (13), Helen (11), Leonard (9), Thresa (7), Robert (6), Ju-- (4 3/12), Jeanne (2 4/12), and Agnes (10 months). The eldest 6 children attended school.4 
1940 CensusNat and Martha appeared on the 1940 Federal Census of Sheridan County, Montana. The family lived on a farm and paid $5 rent. They lived in the same house as in 1935. Nat was 54, had 4th grade education, birthplace English Canada, naturalized. He was seeking work and had not worked for 30 weeks prior to April 1st. The previous year Nat worked 24 weeks for an income of $105. Martha was 51, 8th grade education, born Illinois. Their children with them were Theresa L (17), Robert D (16), Jude C (14), Jeanne F (12), Agnes G (10), Jeremia N (daughter, 7), and Vivian G (5). All the children attended school.5

DeathFlora died on 22 Oct 1918 in Stark County, North Dakota.4
 
Note.Their son Mervin McLean Davis was born 18 October 1918, Flora died of the Spanish flu on the 22nd, then the baby died on the 9th of November in Jackson County, Minnesota between the depot and the town. It seems likely that he was being taken to Flora's sister Lulu Belle who lived there with her family.
