MR HARRY SPRATT [BY TELEGRAPH---OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAWERA, Monday The death occurred at Hawera yesterday of Mr Harry Spratt, a well-known resident, aged 78 years. Deceased was born in Somerset, England, and came to New Zealand 53 years ago, landing at Auckland. About 30 years ago he went to Hawera, where he took up farming. The late Mr Spratt was a good judge of horses, and bred several racehorses, which performed well on the track, including the well-known Mendip and Inah. He was for many years steward of the Egmont Racing Club. In recognition of his services he was elected a life-member of the club. For several years he was chairman of the Hawera Dairy Company. His wife predeceased him four years ago. He is survived by three sons, Mr George Spratt (Waverley), Mr H L Spratt (Sydney), and Mr A E Spratt (Hawera), and one daughter, Mrs S Nicholson (Levin.)4 |
