HUTTON.
GAY WEDDING.
The village of Hutton was en fete on Thursday, on the occasion of the marriage of Mr Richard Ponting, of Binegar, near Bath, to Miss Margaret Hemens, only surviving daughter of Mr and Mrs Sidney Hemens, of the Court Farm, Hutton. The church too was beautifully adorned with flowers and foliage by Mrs Gibbs and the Misses Gibbs, wife and daughters of the Rector. Friendly demonstrations of regard and esteem were shown on every hand, and at the time fixed for the ceremony the church and the approaches thereto were crowded. During the arrival of the bridal party, Master Hathaway, who presided at the organ, played a succession of suitable voluntaries. The bride was accompanied by her father, by whom she was given away. She was attired in a rich cream satin dress trimmed with Duchesse lace, wreath of orange blossoms and tulle veil. She also carried a lovely bouquet, the gift of the bridegroom. The bridesmaids, five in number, were Miss Palmer (cousin of the bride), who wore a dress of cream nun's veiling trimmed with ruby plus, Misses Ponting and Withy, who wore cream and old gold with hats to match, and the Misses Gibbs and Beedle dressed in cream and electric blue with bonnets to match. Each of them wore a silver antique brooch, the gift of the bridegroom, and carried a handsome bouquet. The groomsmen were Mr Henry Ponting (brother and best man) Mr Henry Hemens, Mr John Hemens, Mr Ernest E Hemens and Mr Frank Hemens (brothers of the bride). The ceremony was performed by the Rev GH Gibbs, rector, assisted by the Rev Joseph Palmer, (Priddy), uncle of the bride. At the close of the service the organ pealed forth Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" and the bride and bridegroom on leaving the church were saluted with heavy showers of rice. The breakfast was served in a spacious tent on the lawn in front of the house by Mr Carey, of Weston-super-Mare, the centre of the table being graced by a magnificent wedding cake. The guests included, in addition to the bridal party, the squire of the parish, Mr AH Bistee, of the Court, the Rev GH Gibbs, Rev J and Mrs Palmer, Mr W Ponting and Mr E Ponting (brothers of the bridegroom) Mr and Mrs Jeffs, Mr and Mrs T Palmer, Mr and Mrs Batt, Miss Ponting, Mr and Mrs WH Beedle, Mr Spencer Tyler, Miss A Gibbs, Miss N Beedle, Miss Baker, Miss Ponsford, Mr C Palmer, Mr T Beedle, Master Walter Hemens and Master Leslie Hemens (brothers of the bride). The wedding presents included upwards of 100 really useful souvenirs from friends and relatives, in addition to one from the scholars of the Sunday school -- in whose welfare the bride had for many years evinced a deep inteest as teacher; also handsome testimonies of respect from the rector, Mr AH Bisdee, Mr Joseph Edwards, and other of the principal residents. A splendid clock was also presented to the bridegroom by his employees. The bridemaids were presented with very pretty brooches, as souvenirs of the happy event by the bridegroom. PATRICIDE.--At Compton Dando, Samuel Ford and his wife had been quarrelling; their son, Alexander Ford, came home; some words of an angry nature then took place between the father and the son, when, shocking to relate, the son struck the father on the left side of his head, which caused such injury as to kill him instantly. Verdict of the Coroner's Jury, Manslaughter. He was committed to Shepton Gaol

Sherborne Mercury 18 August 1834

Somerset Assizes.
MANSLAUGHTER.— Alexander Ford stood charged with the manslaughter his father, Samuel Ford.
Mr. Jardine, on the part the prosecution, was glad to be enabled to say, after going through the depositions, that facts appeared in coroner's inquisition which would render it unnecessary to bring the case before them ; and he was bound to say, so far from the prisoner being the means the death of his father, he thought, if all the evidence had been gone through, it would have been found to have arisen from excessive feelings of anger in the deceased; and he was further glad to say that the prisoner bore excellent character—that of a dutiful son.
