1851/2 Census Unfortunately, the 1851/52 census for Marmora Township did not survive.
1861 CensusJohn and Isabella Keys appeared on the 1861 Census of Marmora and Lake Township, Hastings County, Ontario. John was a yeoman and Isabella a spinster (all the women were noted to be spinsters by the census taker). They were both to be 60 years old on their next birthdays, married, born in Ireland and their religion was Church of England. Also in their household was Isabella A Ritchson (16, born in Canada and probably the daughter of Isabella's sister Margaret) and James and his wife Ann Tassy (22 and probably the daughter of Isabella's sister Elizabeth). The next household was that of Royal Keys.2
1871 CensusJohn and A Isabella Keys appeared on the 1871 Census of Marmora Township, Hastings County, Ontario. They were married, born in Ireland, religion Church of England, and could not read or write. John was 70 and a Farmer. A. Isabella was 60 and born in Ireland. The households next to them were Royal Keys (now 106 years old) and Andrew and Ann Downey [Ann's maiden name was O'Donnell].4
DeathIsabella died between 1871 and 1881.
Isabella was with John in the 1871 census and he was a widower in the 1881. A death registration has not been found although many other deaths in that locale and time frame were registered.
Research Note There is a death registration for a MARY Keys on August 14th 1876 in Marmora District. She was 73 years old, occupation Spinster, religion Church of England, and born in County Fermanagh Ireland. She had paralysis for 3 years and the informant was John Keys.5
1881 CensusJohn Keys appeared on the 1881 Census of Marmora Township, Hastings County, Ontario. The image was almost unreadable so I am using the FamilySearch transcription.
John was 81, born in Ireland, widowed, a Farmer, Church of England. Also in the household were Catherine McShea (48, servant) [she was with the Royal Keys family in 1871] and John Broadworth (16, servant) [he was Isabella's great nephew].6
Research Note John Keys died in 1881. The informant on his death certificate was John Inkster [the son of Isabella's sister Elizabeth].

The license was for the Church of St Nicholas. Mary's father David Home, Major to the 25th Regt signed the document, giving his consent to the intended marriage. David Home and Wetwang March, both of the Town of Newcastle upon Tyne, took out a £200 bond that there were no impediments to the marriage.2

Elizabeth Home1

#3554, (c 1758 - 1842)
FatherDavid Home1 (1711 - 1779)

Children of Elizabeth Home and Patrick Brown

Life Events

Research Note How do I know that this Elizabeth Home is the daughter of this David Home?
Elizabeth Home and her husband Patrick Brown late Captain in the 25th Regt of Foot applied to administer the estate of Mrs Mary Home or March who was described as "sister german" to Elizabeth. Mary was described as the "Daughter of the deceased Lieut Colonel David Home Lieut Governor of Chester Castle and widow of the Deceased Major March of the Regiment of Foot at the time of her decease" at Musselburgh the 27 May 1798.
Other evidence: her marriage record, newspaper death notice, and gravestone inscription.

The bit of information that does not fit is in Elizabeth Home or Brown's will when she named as two of her trustees "brother Dr James Home physician in Edinburgh" and "Francis Home Esquire eldest son of the said Dr James Home".
The well-known Dr James Home physician in Edinburgh was said to be the son of Francis Home, not David. Perhaps there is a second James Home physician.
BirthElizabeth Home was born circa 1758.2

(Mentioned) Probate The service of heirs index in 1793 shows Mary, Jean, and Elizabeth Home, each "to her father Lieut-Col David Home, Governor of Chester Castle who died 1779 Heir Portioner Special in £1000 Sterling, over Westend & Nethermains of Hassington, etc. - Berwick".

Why was this done in 1793?3
MarriageShe married Patrick Brown on 30 Aug 1780 in Canongate, Edinburgh, Midlothian.
They were recorded as Captain Patrick of the 25th Regiment, and Miss Elizabeth Hume, daughter to the deceased Governour.1,4
Note.In August 1793, niece Elisabeth Home alias Brown spouse to Patrick Brown Esquire late Captain of the 25th Regt of Foot was mentioned in the trust disposition and settlement of Dr Francis Home. She was to receive £100 if Francis' son James died without issue.5
Note.A codicil to her uncle Francis Home's will on 9 June 1801 revoked the £100 legacy.5
(Widowed) DeathHer husband died on 8 Aug 1808.6
