Sarah McLean1

#457, (1842 - )
FatherMartin McLean1 (1815 - )
MotherMary McGilvray1 (c 1816 - )

Child of Sarah McLean and Charles McHenry

Life Events

BirthSarah McLean was born on 24 Sep 1842 in Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario.
[The baptism record says born 24 Sep 1843, bapt 9 Apr 1843. The baptisms are in chronological order so it seems likely that the recorder erred and the birth was in 1842]1
BaptismShe was baptized on 9 Apr 1843 in Maple Presbyterian Church, Vaughan Twp, Ontario.1
(with Parents) 1851/2 CensusSarah appeared on the 1852 Census of Vaughan Township, York County, Ontario with her parents. She was born in Canada, Free Presbyterian, age 10 on her next birthday, and attended school.2
(with Parents) 1861 CensusShe appeared on the 1861 Census of York County, Ontario with her parents. She was 18 years old [as of next birthday] and born in Upper Canada.3
MarriageShe married Charles McHenry on 6 Dec 1861 in Peel County, Ontario.
Details from the index [original record not yet consulted]: Sarah McLean, 19, birthplace Canada, residence Albion, parents Mathew [sic] & Mary; Charles Mchenry, 23, birthplace England, residence Albion, parents Charles & Elizabeth.4
Research Note The Martin McLean family immigrated to Illinois about 1866. Don't know if Sarah and Charles did as well. In the marriage index, Sarah's father was transcribed as Mathew but in the 1880 census Lizzie McHenry (age 18, born in Canada) was enumerated with grandparents Martin & Mary. So, Sarah's marriage to Charles McHenry is likely the correct record.

Clarence was born February 2, 1911 to parents Emsily (Needham) and John Campbell. He grew up and lived all his life time on Concession 9, Kincardine Township until 1988 when he moved to Forbes Apts., Kincardine. On June 12, 1940 Clarence married Jeanetta Inkster, who was his loving partner for 45 years. They farmed on the old family farm until her death November 10, 1985. To this marriage was born a family of four who all survive: Bert Campbell, Sault Ste Marie; Beth Campbell, Harrow; Margaret Smith, RR 4, Denfield; Bruce Campbell, RR 5, Kincardine.
On July 11, 1988 Clarence married Marjorie McKay who also survives along with his loving sister Mary of Princess Court. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and Marjorie's family and grandchildren who loved him deeply.
A private family visitation was held Saturday eve at Davey Funeral Home. On Sunday, No 1, a memorial service was held at Chalmers Congregational Church where Clarence had attended during his whole life. He loved the Lord, and was happy in duties at the church, especially with young people and Sunday School.
The service was taken by Rev David Williams of Glamis in absence of our pastor Rev Docken, ably assisted by Charles Wallis and Charles Lemon. His favourite music was provided by Chalmers Gospel Band and the quartet sand "What a Wonderful Day."
Serving Clarence's wishes, six young men acted as his pallbearers: Robert and John Campbell, Kevin and Kent McKay, Henry and Murray Needham.
