Research Note Tracking down Ellen as an adult was an interesting genealogical exercise. It's always tricky making sure you have the right person. The informant on Thomas Crandon's 1927 death registration was his daughter Mrs Young. Ellen the wife of James Young in the 1921 census was a good candidate but I couldn't find a marriage record. Birth records for two of their children stated that their parents married in Manitoba. Then I found Ellen in the 1901 census in Brandon. And, in the 1911 census, a daughter of Ellen's deceased sister Maggie was lodging with them.
1901 CensusElla M Crandon appeared on the 1901 Census of Brandon, Manitoba. She was a Cook for a barrister's family. Ella was 24, born 11 Dec 1870 in Ontario, of English origin, religion Church of England, and earned $180 in 12 months.3
