FAREWELL PARTY

Between thirty and forty friends of Miss Alberta Malcolm gathered at Sylvan Lake on Wednesday evening last for a farewell to Miss Malcolm on the eve of her departure for Dauphin, Man., to take up training for a nurse in the General Hospital there.

After dancing for a time, the company did ample justice to the delicious "eats" and then gathered around a bonfire at Lower Camp which was the envy and admiration of the whole rising generation.

After a brilliant oration by Chas Weston, in which he feelingly expressed the regret of the entire company at Miss Malcolm's departure, the guest of the evening was presented with a beautiful leather club bag, as a remembrance of Red Deer friends.

Roy Malcolm responded ably on behalf of his sister.

Miss Malcolm left on Saturday for Calgary. Miss Elsie McEwan left yesterday to meet her in Calgary and they will proceed to Winnipeg together. Miss McEwan will spend a few weeks visiting at her home in Ontario before returning to resume her duties as C.P.R. telegraph agent.

The Excelsior Class of Knox Sunday School had a party at the home of Mrs Wm Grier and presented Miss Malcolm and Miss Ida Johnson with Eversharp pencils. Miss Johnson is leaving to train for a nurse at Edmonton.

The News extends best wishes to these young people for success in their chosen profession.8

A pretty wedding was solemnized in St Thomas' Church on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock, when Annie Georgina, daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Burton of this city, was married to Mr John Redvere [sic] Lidster of Vancouver, the Rev Martin W Holdom officiating.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, was becomingly gowned in white georgette, with veil worn mantilla fashion. Her bouquet was a sheaf of white gladioli. Miss Hilda Burton, sister of the bride, was maid of honor, wearing for the occasion a smart frock of rose georgette with hat the same shade, with lovely bouquet of Ophelia roses. Little Miss Barbara Cohen, niece of the bride, as flower girl, was attractive in pink organdie with hat to match, and carried Cecil Brunner roses. Mr J W Stoby of Vancouver supported the groom. Miss Nan Densham played the wedding marches. Mr Charles Ireland and Mr Henry Richmond acted as ushers. The church was artistically decorated with summer flowers and foliage by the friends of the bride.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, Mr and Mrs Lidster leaving later for the north, after which they will make their home in West Vancouver.
